Mac has been one of the most popular operating systems for your share of connectivity.

But how about connecting your Bluetooth headphones to your Mac device? Is it indeed possible? Well, yes – you can connect your Bluetooth headphones to your Mac and enjoy a host of activities like listening to your videos, music files or even make internet calls.

In fact, Bluetooth headphones can be quite user-friendly as they are wireless and can be easy to works with.

How to Connect your Sony Bluetooth Headphones to Mac?

Well, now that you are using a Bluetooth headphone, you need to go with a process called pairing. This will help your Mac and Sony Headphones to communicate with each other in a seamless manner. However, this has to be done only for the first time you are connecting your headphones with Mac. For subsequent hearing options, it would not be an issue as the pairing would continue to work seamlessly.

The Prerequisites

Make sure that your headphones and the mac meet the following requirements –

  • Make sure that your Mac has Bluetooth functionality that supports music playback. We mean you should look for the A2DP protocol support.
  • The distance between your Mac and headphones should not be more than three meters
  • Ensure that the headphone is charged and switched on.
  • Make sure that the Audio on your Mac is turned on

The Pairing

Turn on the headphone. If this is the first time you are using the headphone, it will automatically go into the pairing mode. If you have already paired it to a few other devices and want to add your mac again, press and hold down the button meant for the purpose.

Ideally on Sony headphones, pressing and holding the power button for seven seconds will make it enter the Pairing mode. However, it would be advisable to refer to your headphone manual for the proper information.

On your Mac, Choose System Preferences -> Bluetooth. Choose the headphone you are trying to pair from the list of options available. Click on it.

In case your mac asks for passkey or password, enter 0000. Your Mac and Sony headphone will now be connected. You may also hear the voice confirmation if your Bluetooth headphone supports the functionality.

Use the headphones

Locate the speaker icon at the upper right corner of your Mac. Choose your headphones from the list of speakers connected. This will make the headphones the default speaker for your audio playback.

That does it. Enjoy the music or any other playback from your Mac seamlessly on your Sony headphones.

Please note that the procedure featured above is an example. For the exact procedure for pairing your headphones to your Mac and listening to your musical experience, it would be advisable to refer to your headphone manual for a complete information.

Anything else You need to Pay attention To?

Well, not exactly. Under ideal circumstances, you should be able to connect to your headphones and use your headphones on your Mac device seamlessly. Some sporadic issues can arise in exceptional cases. However, we do not expect any serious issues as such.

Sometimes a connectivity issue can hinder the Bluetooth pairing. If a connection is not established in under five minutes, the pairing mode is canceled.

The headphone will shut down automatically. If it happens to you, you will need to repeat the steps once again.

It would be advisable to take care of the following points when you are trying to connect your Bluetooth headphones to your Mac device –

  • Once a device is paired with your headphone, there is no need to pair it again for the subsequent use.
  • Pairing information can be deleted if you have conducted any repair on your Bluetooth headphone
  • The pairing information may also be deleted if you reset data on any of the connected devices.
  • There is ideally a limit to the number of the devices that can be connected to a Bluetooth device. Sony headphones normally connect to eight devices at a time. Check the exact number of devices that your particular headphones can connect with. Your headphone manual should provide you with the right information in this context.
  • The headphone can be paired to a number of devices – subject to a maximum number specified for each type and model of headphone- but it would be able to play music or audio from one device only at a time.

What if Your Mac does not come with Bluetooth Feature?

Well, if you have an old Mac device, the Bluetooth connectivity may not be available on it.

In such a case, you can opt for a Bluetooth adapter. Make sure there are no other options available for connecting your headphones with your mac before opting for an adapter.

The adapters are ideally available at different price points. You can buy the one that meets your exact requirements. Choose an option between $ 40 to $100. Make sure that adapter is compatible with your Mac and has A2DP protocol for error free music playback.

Make sure the Mac that you are trying to pair with your Sony headphones has adequate drivers for Bluetooth connectivity. Keep your drivers updated for an error free functionality.

The Concluding Thoughts

Well, the above discussion is specifically addressed at Sony Bluetooth headphones and their connectivity with your Mac device. However, the steps and methods should be almost on the exact steps for other brands of headphones as well. There can be a few minor differences.

Keep an eye on the updates for your Mac though. A non-updated mac device may create issues with Bluetooth connectivity.
